THE 7th ANNUAL LOCOMOTION YOUTH FILM FESTIVAL
The LocoMotion International Youth Film Festival, produced by Spy Hop Productions, showcases the emerging visions of young people (15-18), celebrating artistic excellence, technical achievement and originality through the presentation of creative and compelling short films. The 2008 LocoMotion Film Festival will be May 9th at the Main City Library (210 East 400 South) in Salt Lake City.

Spy Hop Productions first produced the festival in 2002 as part of the 2001-2002 Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration™ of Salt Lake City, a component of the 2002 Winter Olympic Arts Festival.  The LocoMotion International Film Festival is one of the premier youth film festivals in the country.  Students from nearly every part of the world have submitted films for competition. The panel of judges for the festival includes the Spy Hop video apprentices and local industry leaders.

The festival also features a 24-hour filmmaking competition. The 24-hour filmmaking competition takes place two weeks before the festival. Parameters are released online and at Spy Hop.  Awards will be given in two categories this year: the 24-hour filmmaking competition and Audience Choice. Winners will be announced at the screening as well as online.

filmThe LocoMotion Film Festival also hosts a wide range of exciting interactive workshops. Through these workshops, young people from local community groups and schools are encouraged to explore creative and vocational aspects of filmmaking with the guidance of professional mentors.

The LocoMotion Film Festival promotes youth-produced media as a means to entertain, educate, and inform festival-goers of the artistic and socially conscious concerns and perspectives of today’s youth.  For filmmakers, each screening, workshop, or competition provides the motivation and the opportunity – for novices and experts alike – to explore filmmaking as a means for shaping and expressing their growing understanding of the world. All festival screenings and workshops are offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of the festival sponsors.

The LocoMotion Festival Screening will begin at 11:30AM. Workshops begin at 9AM and continue thorugh to 2:30PM. View Workshop Descriptions »
