For Fall 2020 Watch This is is offered online with the option to schedule in-person lab time.
Spy Hop is looking for young filmmakers to create content for Watch This!, our web-channel that focuses on addressing social issues and topics that are relevant to you. If politics, religion, education, the environment, and art get you fired up, then join Watch This! and create short films that express your opinion on these topics and more. Don’t just join the conversation, start one!
This class requires an Interview Session conducted via Zoom with the teaching mentor prior to being accepted into the class. The Interview Session is simply a way for the mentor and student to get to know each other and to assess interests, skill level, and set expectations for the program. Prospective students will be notified prior to the start of class of their acceptance into the program. The teaching mentor for Watch This! will contact prospective students directly to schedule interviews.
What Happens in this Class:
- Write and conceptualize ideas around relevant topics.
- Pitch an idea for a short segment : Video essay, Personal narrative, Experimental, Fiction, Documentary, Hybrid, etc.
- Direct, produce and shoot your piece.
- Use advanced equipment to achieve your creative vision.
- Learn editing techniques and Color grading .
- Make short films in a quick paced environment.
- Premiere your film online.

Access to Gear and Technology Matters
We believe that access to high quality gear, technology and equipment should not be a barrier to civic participation. Therefore, Spy Hop has gear packages available for FREE for any student who needs it in order to take a Spy Hop class. Gear can be picked up at Spy Hop’s downtown facilities and kept for the duration of the program. Gear packages are coordinated directly with Spy Hop’s Program Director, Jeremy Chatelain.
