Dear Spy Hop Friends: A Letter From Kasandra

Dear Spy Hop Friends,

It is with both a heavy heart and a deep sense of fulfillment that I write to share that after nearly 17 years at Spy Hop, I will be stepping down from my position as Executive Director this spring. This decision comes after much reflection and with a commitment to ensuring that Spy Hop continues to thrive under new leadership for many years to come.

During my time here, I have poured my heart, soul, and energy into building a strong foundation for the organization. I have worked tirelessly to ensure that young people in our community have access to talented mentors, enriching arts experiences, and the skills they need to succeed in life. Spy Hop has grown and evolved, and I truly believe the best years are ahead. It is now time for me to step aside and allow for new leadership to bring fresh energy, creativity, and vision to this incredible organization.

As I reflect on our many shared accomplishments, I am filled with immense pride. We’ve worked hand-in-hand to build the Kahlert Youth Media Arts Center in Salt Lake City, a place where young people can create, learn, and express themselves. We established a Legacy Fund, ensuring that our commitment to providing high-quality, free arts education will continue for years to come. And, in 2022, we completed a strategic plan that outlines the path forward for Spy Hop over the next decade — ensuring that our work will continue to grow and evolve in ways that best support the young people we serve.

I am grateful to be leaving the organization in a position of strength, with an incredible staff, a committed Board of Directors, and a supportive Advisory Board. Our shared vision for the future of Spy Hop remains as strong as ever. Moving forward, we will continue to invest in our programs across Utah, expanding opportunities for young people to develop the skills and mindsets they need to realize their full potential and ensure their voices are heard and valued in their communities.

As we celebrate Spy Hop’s 25th Anniversary this year, I want to take a moment to thank all of you – our community — for your belief in the transformative power of the arts and for your unwavering support throughout my time here. It has been a true honor to work alongside such passionate, dedicated individuals who share the mission of empowering youth through creativity, collaboration, and mentorship.

The impact Spy Hop has had on the lives of young people will stay with me forever. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this journey, and I am confident that the organization will continue to flourish in the years to come.
