MORE THAN MEDIA

MORE THAN MEDIA

OUR PROGRAMS SUPPORT THE WHOLE PERSON

At Spy Hop, supporting young people’s well-being isn’t a separate initiative. It’s built into everything we do. Our Youth Media Arts Center gives kids and teens ages 8–25 a welcoming “third space” to build confidence, find their people, and discover real creative skills in film, music, audio, and design. In today’s world, that kind of belonging matters more than ever. Our programs are designed to reduce the very things that put young people at risk: isolation, low self-worth, and lack of direction.

We also partner with Wyman’s Teen Outreach Program (TOP), a research-backed program that helps teens develop life skills, strengthen relationships, and make safer choices through peer connection and community involvement. Whether your child is looking for somewhere to belong or needs more structured support, our reach extends beyond our center into schools, treatment programs, and juvenile justice settings across Utah.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We've found that small program sizes give the best opportunity for creative learning and mentorship—because of this, most of our classes have a capacity of ten students.
Most of our in-house programs are for ages 12–19 years old. We occasionally offer programs or workshops for young people ages 19-25. We offer spring and summer camps for younger kids ages 8-12.
Our classes are designed for in-person participation. Limited remote attendance may be possible in certain circumstances. Availability depends on the class format and is considered on a case-by-case basis.
Pre-program check-ins are usually 15 minutes or less. They're an opportunity for students and our professional teaching artists to get to know one another, assess goals, talk through schedules, ask questions and feel ready for the program to start. Students don't need to bring anything but themselves.
We keep all our classroom spaces an adult/parent-free zone (excluding staff) to ensure students feel free in their creative expression. If you'd like to see the building and learn more about Spy Hop, you can schedule a tour with our team outside of class time.

stay plugged in

Learning and creativity doesn’t end when the class does. Enrolling in a Spy Hop class means you have access to equipment and technology so you can create outside of class hours.

Our gear lab has everything you need to make films, record music, or design animations available to you for FREE. But it comes with some expectations.

Please take good care of Spy Hop gear while you’re using it. All equipment should be returned at the end of the program in the same condition you received it.

We trust you to treat the gear with respect and take that responsibility seriously. If equipment is damaged or not returned, it may lead to lost gear privileges or fees to repair or replace it.

Our goal is simple: we want everyone to have access to great tools. If you treat the gear like gold, it’ll be ready for the next creator. In short, be a good human.
