ABOUT THE EVENT

Spy Hop invites you to the 24th Annual PitchNic World Premiere, a one-night-only event showcasing four original short films created by Utah’s next generation of storytellers.

This all-ages event features two documentaries and two fiction films that explore timely, powerful themes like identity, aging, racing, mental health, loneliness, friendship, and grief. Bold, heartfelt, and unflinchingly honest, each film reflects the perspective of young filmmakers finding their voices and using them to speak to what matters most in their lives and communities.

PitchNic brings arts lovers, film enthusiasts, and community together to celebrate creativity, connection, and the power of youth voice. Whether you come to be inspired or simply for a night out, you’ll leave reminded why stories matter.

PitchNic short films have traveled the world, screening at festivals from Hollywood to Halifax, but there’s nothing like seeing them here at home.

Recommended for ages 13+ (no babies-in-arms)

Director of Photography: Avary Wennergren
Producer: Aidan Jayce

Years after Manuel loses connection with his trans son, he finds himself sad and alone, searching for solace at the bottom of his cup. Before falling too low, however, he is confronted with a figure from his past whose story is strikingly similar to that of his son. Over the course of this confrontation, he must make a difficult choice–learn to think from a new perspective, or be left in the dust by everyone he truly cares about.

Indomitable (nonfiction)

Director: Leini Tui
Director of Photography: Blake Bates
Producer: Phoenix Ballesteros

Indomitable brings together women across generations in our communities and asks them simple but essential questions: what makes them feel alive, what they’ve learned, what they fear, and what truly matters. Placing the youngest and oldest voices side by side, the film reveals a powerful truth: beneath every stage of life, we are deeply connected. This film is about refusing erasure, honoring who we are through time, and recognizing that becoming is something to be celebrated, not feared.

Redline (nonfiction)

Co-Directors: Alex Rosen & Elijah Sloan
Director of Photography: Alex Rosen
Producer: Michael Montour

Redline is a stylistic observational documentary about racers who rarely get the spotlight. Looking at where mental health and racing collide, and where they quietly intertwine, the film goes inside the minds of athletes who are often overlooked and sidelined, bringing their struggles and triumphs into the light they deserve.

Not How We Hoped (fiction)

Director: Mendela Herbert
Director of Photography: Haze Isom
Producers: Mandela Herbert and Haze Isom

Sally and Elanor have found a haven amongst the animals that call the meadows and forests home. When Elanor comes to in an unfamiliar desert, with gaps of time missing, she wanders the land as horrific memories uproot and weave together to reveal a tragedy. As nature tends to mirror life, so too does it mirror grief. In the aftermath of violence, two friends accept that, to be at peace, they must put down the anger and fear that never should have been theirs to hold.
