Vision

We stand in solidarity to advance meaningful opportunities for every young person to learn, engage, and thrive as healthy individuals. By creating space where youth can invest their strengths and engage in their own growth, we believe we can create a community without conformity.

COMMUNITIES THAT CARE

In January 2020, Spy Hop partnered with community stakeholders and other youth-serving organizations in Salt Lake City to build a strong support network for young people at Glendale Middle and East High Schools. This collaboration led to the formation of the Central 9th Youth Coalition.

The Coalition follows the Communities that Care (CTC) prevention model, designed by Dr. David Hawkins and Dr. Richard Catalano of the Social Development Research Group. This approach promotes positive youth development by addressing risk factors that can lead to negative outcomes and strengthening protective factors that support positive outcomes for young people.

Operating through a Community Board and six workgroups, the Coalition uses a five-phase process to understand our community’s unique risks and strengths. Based on data and community input, the Coalition develops a plan to address risks while enhancing protective factors to create a safer and healthier community for young people in Salt Lake City.

Good books, good music, good friends. I also like walking and skiing in the back country, hanging out with people I love, and playing the piano in a band. Napping on a rainy afternoon is beautiful.
