Intro to Songwriting

Songwriting workshop 

In this music program, you will learn the basics of songwriting with an emphasis on the creative process, performance, and recording demos in a supportive online group environment. This workshop will focus on writing in key, lyrics, song arrangement, singing, melody, and rhythm. At the end of the workshop, you’ll perform your songs for friends and family in a local venue.

Intro to Songwriting is an introductory-level program that is offered two times per year: fall and winter/spring.

What Happens in this Class:

  • Write original songs
  • Learn about composition, chord progressions and song structure
  • Participate in lyric writing exercises in a group environment
  • Record demos of your original songs that will be shared on Soundcloud
  • Live performance at the end of class at a local coffee shop

Access to Gear and Technology Matters

We believe that access to high-quality gear, technology, and equipment should not be a barrier to being an active participant in your community. Spy Hop provides professional gear and software for all participating students in classes at the Kahlert Youth Media Art Center. Professional gear is available to rent for FREE for students who may need to use gear and equipment outside of class time for assignments and special projects.
