Voices of the West Online Summer Program
In partnership with the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Spy Hop is able to bring the Voices of the West, Stories from Utah Youth Program to rural regions of Utah. Due to COVID-19 our program design has shifted to an online format.
Aspiring youth filmmakers, storytellers and journalists – Spy Hop is looking for you!
Have fun and gain media production skills through FREE online workshops for kids ages 13-19 in Vernal, Blanding, Hurricane, and Tooele. Learn how to use basic filmmaking skills from a Spy Hop teaching artist while finding new ways to connect online with friends.. Through a two-part paid apprenticeship program youth participants will have the opportunity to collaborate online with other youth across the state of Utah to create an interactive digital story.
Introductory Media Lab: May 26-28 | Vernal | Tooele | Blanding | Hurricane/La Verkin
3-day online workshop to connect with a Spy Hop teaching mentor and other youth participants in your community while gaining basic media production skills.
Intensive Apprenticeship: July, dates TBD
Paid apprenticeship which includes a week-long series of intensive online workshops and independent work time to collaborate with all Voices of the West Online participants in Vernal, Tooele, Blanding and Hurricane to create an interactive digital journalistic story to share your unique perspectives on life in a small town during the pandemic. $200 stipend is available to participants who complete the project.
