Full-Day Summer Camps
Project-based camps focused on creativity, self-expression and FUN!

Spy Hop’s summer camps provide full-day workshop style experiences jam-packed with opportunities for learning and creative self-expression. Camp time is 9 am – 4 pm with an hour-long lunch break (students are required to bring their own lunches). Following the Spy Hop model, camps are taught by our caring mentors who are professionals in their fields of music, design, audio engineering or film. Kids will have hands-on training and instruction using Spy Hop gear to bring their artistic ideas to life. Our approach to learning encourages collaboration, problem-solving, communication skills and creative thinking. Every Friday afternoon parents/guardians are invited to attend a camp celebration where we share student projects. Spark your child’s creative brain at Spy Hop this summer!

Spy Hop Hangout (extended care) 4 pm – 5:30 pm: $45 per week

Spy Hop Hangout (aftercare) is meant for campers whose families are unable to pick up when daily programming ends. Spy Hop’s Hangout is a great way to wind down after a full-day of fast-paced programming and media making. The Hangout atmosphere is relaxed allowing for time to chill with friends, play games, or work on an art project. Spy Hop Hangout runs daily from 4-5:30 and is held at Spy Hop. Campers will be provided with a small snack each day and will be fully supervised.

Music Video Rewind

We’re hitting rewind on music video production! In this camp you’ll create your very own music video . . . starting with the video! You’ll utilize cameras, lights, and Adobe Premier software to plan out your shots, shoot your video, and edit your scenes together. Then use Ableton Live and Pro Tools in the Spy Hop studios to create an awesome song to go along with your video You could have the next great internet sensation on your hands!

Animation Dance Party

Spend the mornings exploring different types of movement. Utilize cameras, lights and Adobe Premier software to create your own dance film. Then, learn to use rotoscoping and special effect animations to take your dance moves to another dimension. By the end of the week you’ll show off your masterpiece in your own Dance and Animation Film Festival!

Rock Climbing & Magical Creatures

Experience the thrill of rock climbing in The Front Climbing Club‘s state-of-the-art indoor facility. Try scaling the seventy-foot walls, the tallest in the country! In the mornings you will learn climbing fundamentals such as rope work, movement, problem solving, and how to use climbing equipment. Then, you’ll travel to Spy Hop in the afternoon where you’ll explore strange worlds as you create your own fantastical creatures and characters. You’ll learn to use basic filmmaking skills and tools such as cameras, lighting, greenscreen, and costumes to bring all of your creations to life.

Drop off in the mornings at The Front and pickup at Spy Hop in the afternoon. Transportation between sites is provided.

Platformer Game Design & Music Creation

In this camp, you’ll create a 3D platformer adventure game and an original song to go with it! Become a level designer as you utilize teleporters, trampolines and anti-gravity machines to make your game challenging. Then place enemies in your world and adjust their AI to make the perfect boss. In the afternoon, you’ll immerse yourself in the art of music creation. Make beats, write lyrics, sing melodies, try out instruments, and record original songs. You’ll also learn to produce high quality recordings so that you can use your songs in your game. Dive in.

On Belay, Game On

Experience the thrill of rock climbing in The Front Climbing Club‘s state-of-the-art indoor facility. Try scaling the seventy-foot walls, the tallest in the country! In the mornings you will learn climbing fundamentals such as rope work, movement, problem solving, and how to use climbing equipment. Spend the afternoon with Spy Hop using Unity3D software to create your own rock climbing video game. As the character you design climbs the wall they will confront enemies of your own creation.

Puppets in Action

Capes, masks, secret lairs, dungeons…imagine an original hero or villain, then bring your character and their world to life through arts, crafts, and digital magic! Spend the week making puppets, building sets, writing a script, and learning basic filmmaking skills. Then plan and shoot your very own action-packed puppet movie! At the end of the week, you’ll screen your creation at the Spy Hop Puppet Film Festival!

Your Life: Animated!

Tell your story, and animate it too! Modeled after Storybooth, an online platform that lets you animate your personal stories, this camp will teach you how to record and edit your story using high-quality audio software. Then visually bring your experiences to life with stop-motion animation using sand, clay, shadow puppets and your creative brain! Don’t let your story go untold, let it unfold!

Uprok Beatbox

Spend the morning learning four styles of Hip Hop dance; BBoying, Popping, New Jack & House. Learn the history, foundation, and context of each style, and how to express the movements to create an individual style of your own. Then, travel to the Spy Hop’s studios to use Ableton Live software to create original beats, learn about sampling, and produce your music. At the end of the week you’ll showcase your dance moves and original songs!

Morning drop-off is at the B-Boy Federation, afternoon pickup is at Spy Hop. Transportation between sites is provided.

Mad Lib Blockbuster

Make your own Mad Lib Blockbuster! In this camp you will spend the mornings learning how to digitally design and lay out your own eye-popping, full color movie posters using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Then, you’ll spend the afternoon learning to use cameras, lights, and greenscreen to film your own amazing blockbuster movie trailer that matches the poster and fills in all the blanks!

Radio Play Puppet Show

Take your creativity to the next level in this multi-media and crafting explosion! Spend a week mixing podcast storytelling and puppet making, as you learn how to put together the ultimate puppet radio broadcast. In the mornings you’ll learn the art of podcast storytelling and basic audio engineering in the Spy Hop studios. In the afternoon you’ll create your own characters through the art of puppet making and learn the basics of filmmaking to visually bring your podcast to life!

Honey, I Shrunk The Spy Hop Kids

Look out! Spy Hop students are going get shrunk straight into a miniature animation adventure! In this camp, you will utilize filmmaking and special effects to create a new world that your character will inhabit and explore. Spend the mornings learning Adobe After Effects and set building to create your miniature world. Then, spend the afternoon learning how to develop characters, utilize cameras, and edit with Adobe Premier. Will you make friends with insects? Will you shrink to a molecular level? It’s all up to you!

Fantasy Filmmaking

Immerse yourself in worlds from your wildest imagination! In this camp you’ll learn to utilize cameras, boom microphones, lighting, and greenscreens to craft an epic fantasy adventure starring characters of your own creation. Then you’ll learn to make your movie larger than life using Adobe After Effects, soundscapes, costumes and makeup design. Transport audiences to new dimensions and learn the special effects secrets of the pros in this fantastic filmmaking adventure!

Rock Climbing & Classic Movie Monsters

Experience the thrill of rock climbing in The Front Climbing Club‘s state-of-the-art indoor facility. Try scaling the seventy-foot walls, the tallest in the country! In the mornings you will learn climbing fundamentals such as rope work, movement, problem solving, and how to use climbing equipment. Then, travel to Spy Hop to create your own version of a classic horror movie monster and star in your own scary film! Dracula! Bride of Frankenstein! Medusa! Godzilla! And….You! Spend the afternoon learning basic filmmaking skills as you utilize lighting, cameras, set building, and greenscreen to create and star in your own terrifying movie trailer.

Fortnite Dance Animations

Learn to make your own music to use for an original Fortnite dance animation that you create. Spend the mornings in Spy Hop’s studios making fresh beats, writing lyrics, trying out instruments, and recording your creations. Then, spend the afternoon creating an original Fortnite style dance sequence using various forms of animation. Try your hand at stop motion animation, claymation, shadow puppets and more. Don’t be a no-skin, level-up and get your dance on! No Fortnite experience necessary.

Spy Hop Summer Camp Policies

Payment
Payment is due in full at the time of registration. Cash, check or all major credit cards are accepted. Parents/Guardians will receive confirmation via email, along with a reminder email one-week before camp starts.

Drop Off
The majority of Spy Hop Summer Camps take place at Spy Hop, 669 S. West Temple. In this case, there will be an identified drop off location in front of the building on West Temple where there will be a Spy Hop staff member to check in all students starting at 8:30 AM. In the instance of a partner camp with The Front, B-Boy Federation, or Salt Lake Arts Academy, drop off will be at the partner site starting at 8:30 AM. Prior to the camp, you will receive an e-mail with the partner addresses and drop-off instructions.

Pick Up
Spy Hop requires that those picking up students in summer camps are listed as approved to do so (including parents). Students are expected to sign in and out at the start and end of each day. If you need to make a different pick-up arrangement mid-week, please contact the Program Director at summer@spyhop.org or call 801-532-7500 to communicate arrangements.

Early Arrivals and Latecomers
You will need to be prompt in dropping off and picking up your child. Spy Hop does not assume responsibility for any child dropped off unattended. Please do not drop off your child before 8:30 am, as staff will not be present to admit your child. If a child is not picked up promptly after camp, you will be charged a late fee of $5.00 for each minute the child is left unattended. This does not apply if you are delayed due to an emergency. Please contact Spy Hop at 801-532-7500 to alert us to any emergency situation, e.g. car trouble, etc.

Refunds
A 100% refund will be given for classes dropped up to four full weeks prior to the first day of class. Requests to drop a class and /or requests for refunds must be made in person at Spy Hop, 669 S. West Temple or by phone at 801-532-7500. Parents are responsible for dropping all desired classes for their children before the drop deadline. No refunds will be issued after the drop deadline passes. No refunds will be authorized in the event of a student dismissal. Please contact us at 801-532-7500 if you have extenuating circumstances beyond student or parent control and we will work with you to come up with a reasonable solution.

Cancellation Of Class
If fewer than the minimum number of students enroll, the camp will be cancelled. Parents will be notified in advance and will receive a full refund. Summer camps require a minimum enrollment of 6 students before they can be held.

Tuition Assistance
A small number of scholarships are available based on financial need. Please contact the Program Director summer@spyhop.org 801-532-7500 to inquire about eligibility.

Discipline Policy
The purpose of good classroom and camp management is to provide an environment conducive to learning and fun. Teachers have the right to teach and students have the right to learn. A disruptive student detracts from the camp experience and effects the enjoyment of others.
Students are expected to abide by these rules:
1. Listen and follow directions
2. Show respect to others around you, the space, and the equipment
3. Use appropriate language and behavior

Our policy in handling disruptive children is as follows: First, the instructor will discuss the situation with the student; on the second occurrence, the instructor will notify the parent. If the situation continues uncorrected, the Spy Hop staff will contact the parent and the student will be dismissed from the camp. No refunds will be authorized in the event of a dismissal.

Cell Phone and Device Policy
We recognize that your child may have the need to bring a cell phone for communication purposes. However, cell phone usage during class is not permitted. Please leave tablets and game devices at home.

Transportation
All transportation required between campsites will be provided by Spy Hop via our Spy Hop shuttle bus or van and licensed drivers.

Lunch and Snacks
Campers are required to bring their own lunches. One hour of supervised lunch time, including optional activities, will be provided each day. Snacks and drinks will be provided by Spy Hop.
