About this class

Take your game from prototype to gold in this 10-month intensive workshop. In Power Up!, you will work as a team of designers, programmers, and producers to create a complete video game that investigates a social, community, or global issue. This collaborative environment will make you feel connected and part of a community. You will learn to think critically about games, how they are made, who makes them, representation in games, and what messages they hold. Using industry-standard software, Unity Game Engine, you will create your unique video games and publish your work for the world to play. As a team, you will build a game that will be green-lighted at a launch party in July 2025!

Applications close September 8th.

Elizabeth Schulte (she/her)

Lead Design Mentor

Hello future change makers,

My name is Liz Schulte, I am one of the design mentors at Spy Hop Productions.  I teach Design Apprenticeship, Power Up, Summer Camps and lots of Community Programs.

I am a traditionally trained artist: figure drawing, oil painting, acrylic, airbrush, charcoal and conte. My first introduction to computers was in college and I fell in love with the digital media arts.  I studied at the Salt Lake Community College (Associate of Applied Science, Visual Arts and Design Emphasis, Associate of Applied Arts, Animation Specialist, Certificate of Proficiency, Web Graphic Design and Certificate of Proficiency, Motion Graphics) and Utah Valley University (Bachelor of Applied Science, Digital Media with an emphasis on video game design).

I continue my study of traditional art while incorporating digital arts.  I love building 3D modeling, rigging, animating, special effects, 3D printing, video game design, toy making, resin casting, prosthetic make-up, airbrush and metal sculpture.

I joined Spy Hop Productions in the Spring of 2014. I am passionate about youth development and knocking down barriers for youth to access digital media. I am a volunteer at the Refugee Education Training center of Utah teaching teens video game design.  The tech advisor for the Guild of Natural Scientific Illustrators.  I lecture at a number of conferences around the State; She Tech, Kid.code, and DigiForge encourage young women interested in technology. I am an active member of the Utah Indie Game Group, Unity Users Group, and UtahVR.  Beyond Spy Hop Productions, volunteering and lecturing I am a freelance artist building Virtual Reality experiences, augmented reality.

I’m excited to make cool art with you!
