About this class

The Advanced Apprenticeship program gives emerging filmmakers hands-on, on-set training in lighting, camera, and sound while building the professional skills needed to step onto a professional crew with confidence. Learn the technical foundations, develop your personal brand, understand industry trends, and build professionalism and relationship-building skills.

You’ll apprentice with Phase 2 Productions (Spy Hop’s in-house professional production company led by a two-time Emmy Award–winning director) and learn directly from Phase 2 Productions’ Assistant Director, Maya Hardie, Spy Hop alum and Telly Award–winning producer. By the end of this apprenticeship, you’ll earn a certification in lights, camera, or sound. Once certified, you qualify for jobs with Phase 2 Productions, where you can get paid to work on real film sets.

This class is great for anyone who wants to pursue a career in film, gain experience on professional sets, and get hands-on technical training. This apprenticeship is also excellent for students who have completed other Spy Hop classes and want to take the next step in film.

Maya Hardie (she/her)

Phase 2 Productions Assistant Director

Hi, my name is Maya and I’m a filmmaker with a range of hands-on experience as a PA and AC all the way to Director and Cinematographer. My journey began at Spy Hop, where I learned from passionate film mentors who helped make a career in the film industry possible for me. In my role at Phase 2 Productions, I’m dedicated to giving that same support back to others. I care deeply about knowledge-sharing, and creating room for a wide range of stories and storytellers in the film industry.
